Meaning of resource efficiency
Natural resources, especially raw materials, are essential production factors and thus the basis of our prosperity. To date, however, economic growth has usually gone hand in hand with high consumption of materials, energy and land.
Natural resources, especially raw materials, are essential production factors and thus the basis of our prosperity. To date, however, economic growth has usually gone hand in hand with high consumption of materials, energy and land.
Non-renewable resources in particular are subject to strong price fluctuations due to their scarcity. Their consumption is also associated with considerable ecological burdens. More efficient use of resources therefore offers a wide range of potential for the economy and the environment.
Resource efficiency makes companies more competitive and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This is because it starts with the largest cost block in the manufacturing sector: According to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, around 43% of costs are accounted for by company expenditure on material and energy consumption each year. Reducing the environmental impact of production and services is – in addition to the operational and economic benefits – the decisive reason why resource efficiency must be increased.
Resource efficiency
- Contributes to resource conservation and climate protection.
- Saves materials and energy.
- Strengthens the competitiveness of companies.
